To Protect Nature and Craftsmanship

Asahi Shuzo has been producing brown sugar shochu on Kikai Island for over 100 years.
"We want to continue the nature and lifestyle we love for the next 100 years."
With this wish, we continue our efforts to protect the nature of Kikai Island and our craftsmanship, nurtured by the island's blessings.

Organic Island Project

The Organic Island Project is an initiative centered around businesses on Kikai Island, focusing on safe, secure, and delicious food.
Kikai Island, a miraculous island where coral reefs have continued to rise for about 130,000 years. With its warm climate, mineral-rich soil, and abundant groundwater, it is an ideal environment for growing delicious crops. However, there are many challenges when it comes to sustainable craftsmanship that coexists with nature.

What we aim for is safe, secure food and a system that allows continuous production. To connect producers and consumers and to develop the region, we are taking on various challenges, including organic farming, processing, sales, and distribution of local specialties. In addition to the organic brown sugar and white sesame we produce, Kikai Island offers many other delights, such as mangoes, passion fruits, tropical fruits, shrimp, and beef.
We will continue to strive so that people not only in Japan but around the world will say, "Because it's from Kikai Island, it's safe, secure, and delicious." Drink, eat, visit. Please enjoy everything that Kikai Island has to offer.

Efforts on Our Own Farm

Efforts on Our Own Farm

Currently, we are cultivating three crops on our farm: sugarcane, rice for raw materials, and white sesame.
We produce brown sugar from the organically grown sugarcane on our farm and use that brown sugar to make brown sugar shochu. Through this safe, secure, and high-quality brown sugar shochu, crafted entirely by us, we convey the charm of Kikai Island itself.

Organic JAS Certification

Organic JAS Certification

Asahi Shuzo obtained Organic JAS Certification in 2015.
Aiming for craftsmanship that coexists with nature by maximizing the power of nature, we grow crops without using chemically synthesized pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic JAS Certification: Under the JAS Law, a third-party organization inspects production to ensure it complies with the "Organic JAS Standards," and certifies businesses to use the "Organic JAS Mark."
Brown Sugar Shochu

Brown Sugar Shochu "Prestigious Sake of the Land Where the Sun Rises"

A profound aroma of brown sugar that evokes a sense of long history. A mellow and complex richness that makes you want to close your eyes and stay in this moment forever. This unique flavor begins with growing organic sugarcane.
From sugarcane cultivation to brown sugar production, everything is handled by our company, resulting in a long-aged vintage brown sugar shochu. Since we use only the brown sugar produced in a given year, you can enjoy both the Kikai Island terroir and the distinctive flavors of each year.
